French Toast

Updated: Apr 4, 2023

2 Eggs

1/4 cup of milk

2 tsp cinnamon

2 tbs sugar

1 tsp vanilla extract

About 8 slices of brioche bread*

1. Mix together eggs, cinnamon, sugar, vanilla and milk until well combined.

2. Dip each slice of bread into the egg wash, thoroughly coating each side of the bread.

3. Cook on medium heat in a nonstick skillet for about 2-3 minutes on each side until slightly browned and firm.

4. Serve with your choice of syrup, powdered sugar, fruit, or mama's homemade whipped cream when you're feeling extra ready to tackle the day.

*You may use a little more or less bread based on how much egg wash soaks into the bread during the egg wash stage. Just soak slices until the egg wash is gone or you can dump any excess that is left once you've gotten what you want out of it.

Tips and Tricks:

The special trick to this recipe is the brioche bread. I actually discovered this by accident one day when I was short on time. I ordered a Walmart grocery pick-up, and they were fresh out of Texas Toast (which is what I absolutely swore by before). I missed the deadline to edit the substitutions and decided to make it anyway beacause french toast was too important to skip. It was probably the best hiccup I've had while cooking.

This recipe is also sweet enough that you can eat it with

no toppings. This is especially nice for those days you're not feeling like cleaning up after the terror tots who smear syrup all over the house with just the sheer thought of the mischief that it could cause. It also isn't so sweet that you will become overwhelmed by adding the toppings.

You can always cut the bread into strips or chunks if it's easier for the little hands to hang onto.

Most of all just have fun with it. Cooking is too essential to hate doing. If we can't enjoy the recipes we have then we definitely won't make them.

XOXO Happy Cooking!
